If sport has anything to do with goodwill, creating and forging new relationships then Birchwood is the place to do just that. After successfully hosting International Football Village and partnering with two of South Africa’s top PSL teams in Moroka Swallows FC & Mpumalanga Black Aces FC the hotel is now donating to charity by way of sport.

David Kleynhans is an accomplished cyclist who is using his talent to raise funds for and awareness of the elderly. Through his past travels, Kleynhans has witnessed a number of impoverished communities where little or no assistance is offered to the elderly. This revelation has struck a chord quite close to his heart and as a result he has opted to cycle from Cape Town to Johannesburg and back again.

It is in that spirit that the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre has chosen to support this venture by becoming an official venue sponsor for his press conference and three night’s accommodation on dinner bed and breakfast while he is in Johannesburg resting.

The F.R.A.I.L (Friendship, Relatives, Acceptance, Involvement and Love) tour commenced on 14 November, and Kleynhans is set to arrive at Birchwood Hotel as part of his Johannesburg pit-stop on 18 November. He will then exhibit at the 94.7 expo as well as partake in the 94.7 cycle challenge – not once, but twice. Immediately after the race, he will depart from Johannesburg and begin the second leg of his tour back to Cape Town. Kleynhans will end this amazing deed and return to his home city on the 25 November.

The Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre became aware of Kleynhans’ cause through Birchwood employee Clint Cosgrave who is also an avid cyclist and who will be taking part in the 94.7 cycle challenge on a tandem with esteemed cycling legend and Olympic Bronze Medalist, Gavin Kilpatrick, in the Pink Drive’s colours, in honour of breast cancer awareness. Birchwood Hotel has also pledged a cash sponsorship and is proud to be associated with these two worthy causes.

Kleynhans’ press conference will be held in the Yellow wood conference room at Birchwood Hotel on the 18 November from 08h00. For more information about press conference please contact Deidre Jonker on deidrej@birchwoodhotel.co.za.
